Tekken 7 Harsher Rage Quit Penalties NEEDED!

This petition is put together and forth by the collective Tekken Fighting Game Community, including its players, fans and consumers, to Katsuhiro Harada and Michael Murray, creator and head game designer, respectfully, of Tekken 7 on PS4, Xbox One and Steam / PC.

Our main concern regarding the making of this petition is the absence of a meaningful and just penalty system within the mechanics of the game that would take effect when a player purposely and willingly disconnects from a ranked match, player match or online tournament session at any point during the said session(s).

The current penalty system, though helpful, is not effective enough to deter players from regularly quitting against others. A simple change of color of the player's ID is lackluster at best, as the amount of disconnections before a color change is unknown, as well as many players somehow avoiding their name changing color altogether. Many players caught rage quitting do not have a yellow or red name, instead the name usually appears the normal white color in the match making screen. These players are still freely allowed to disconnect at will and when they see fit, meaning that they can dictate who wins and/or 'doesn't lose' simply by unplugging/plugging their Ethernet cord quickly, or using a homemade 'lagswitch' to temporarily disrupt connection long enough to cancel the fight. This leaves the honest player at a huge disadvantage in game play, in which the player either doesn't get their earned win after the fight cancels, or loses against the player intending to quit (the quitter wouldn't disconnect if they're at an advantage or will win). This means the quitter can inflate their wins amount and increase their rank while the honest player is forced to eat losses and/or not gain any progress or wins, sometimes at the cost of their own rank.

This is a concerning issue for the majority of people who have bought the game, its extra content and any outside memberships required to play the game online. Close to 98% of all consumers of the game use its online modes, and do not travel to compete in offline tournaments. Many of these players are dependent on the features of the online mode to play with other people. Experiencing these instances where cheating goes unpunished equates to a terrible gameplay experience, resulting in negative feedback from its players, seasoned and casual, and in some instances depleted interest in playing the game altogether. Our community is tight knit, and this problem creates tension and hatred between players and/or groups of players in-game, on message boards and in social media.

We have several proposed solutions towards a more effective penalty system to take effect against players who 'rage quit' by intentionally disconnecting from their internet source before losing a match in ranked or player match modes, or when an online tournament host leaves the tournament session before conclusion. Implementing these ideas into the game will create a better online gaming experience for the majority of players. The proposed solutions are:

    - The quitter/disconnector will be issued a loss (L) and the opposite player will be awarded a win (W).
Used previously in Tekken Revolution on PS3, this seems to be the easiest and most effective way to implement a true penalty, and should be implemented along with any other suggested penalties in this petition. It is important to note that REGARDLESS of the cause of disconnection, the source of the disconnection should determine this result. (Power outage will result in the opposite player receiving a win, etc.)

    - If the quitter/disconnector quits during his/her demotion risk, the demotion will take effect. If the disconnect happens during the quitter's opponent's demotion risk, the demotion does not take effect. Conversely, if the quitter is on promotion chance, his/her rank should be returned to neutral status or to demotion risk during their next fight. If the quitter disconnects during an opponent's promotion chance, the opponent receives his/her promotion.

    - Sequential rage quits result in demotion and/or temporary timed banning, I/e;
If a certain amount of disconnections within a set timeframe (example: 24 hours, 48 hours, 1 hour) occur, the player should be penalized by rank demotion and/or timed temporary ban from use of all online services of the game. This solution can also apply to those who repeatedly disconnect in Player Match sessions.

    - Chronic persistent quits result in a permanent ban, OR
    - Complete rank and win/loss record reset of all characters for that player.
Certain players will quit before losing no matter what. A few are already well known by a majority of the community to quit before losing in any match or session. Like the previous proposition, a certain amount of quits within a time frame will dictate this penalty. Any fees spent on the game, its services or content, or outside fees for memberships required to use online services, cannot be refunded in the case of a permanent ban.

    - Tournament hosts who leave their session before completion should be penalized by not being able to host or compete in tournaments for a set amount of time.
Hosts who disband their created tournament sessions after losing and before the tournament concludes are potentially quitting against 7 or more other players. This issue has directly affected the popularity and use of the tournament feature within days of the game's official release.

    - Matchup quitters with other players who similarly disconnect.
This form of penalty is used in a vast majority of games with online features, and has been a very successful way of dealing with players who cheat. Pairing quitters to each other in rank or player match searches greatly decreases the chances of honest players being matched with them, and further discourages the dishonest behavior. In the case of name colors, yellow and red names should only be matched against other players with yellow or red names.

As a community, we understand that there is a gray area in terms of determining whether or not a 'rage quit' is intentional. The most obvious ways of a player determining this is the timing of the disconnect (during a rank change match, or near the end of a match), character use (usually revealed in private messages between the players) or photo/video evidence of players who quit on multiple occasions, shared by players on YouTube or in social media. We feel that in this day and age of technology, the differences between an intentional disconnect and a server or accidental disconnect (low internet quality, power outage, console or pc crashing or freezing) would be identified remotely by the game itself or its servers. Because of this gray area, to ensure accuracy of justified penalties, a 'three strikes' policy should be put into place, in case disconnects are accidental. An initial warning message, a final warning message and then the penalty. (The win/loss distribution should be applied to EVERY SINGLE disconnected fight).

As a strong community of players of all skill levels, we feel that these demands can be easily met. Many of these solutions are present within a large number of games providing online experiences, including past Tekken titles. These added features will help ensure a satisfying and acceptable online experience, strengthen relationships between players and groups of players, and even possibly boost sales if the changes are advertised.

Please consider our proposal of a new, improved, strict penalty system to be implemented against players who intentionally disconnect to avoid losses, to protect their rank or to terrorize other players.
