Ban The Sale of Shark Fins In California

California Assemblymembers Paul Fong (D-Cupertino) and Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) recently unveiled their landmark legislation Assembly Bill (AB) 376 to ban shark finning, a process where the fins and tails are cut from living sharks, and the remainder of the fish, which is often still alive, is thrown back into the ocean.

Driving this market for fins is the demand for shark fin soup, an often very expensive dish associated with affluence. Unfortunately, the ingredient is very high in mercury and the FDA warns that it could be dangerous to consumers' health.

Help stop the needless annual slaughter of millions of sharks by adding your name to this petition!
Dear California State Assemblymembers,

We, the undersigned of this petition, support Assembly Bill (AB 376) to ban shark finning, a process where the fins and tails are cut from living sharks, and the remainder of the fish, which is often still alive, is thrown back into the ocean.

We agree with California Assemblymembers Paul Fong (D-Cupertino) and Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) who believe it is time to protect sharks and our ocean for future generations by making it illegal to possess, sell, trade, or distribute shark fins.

Driving this market for fins is the demand for shark fin soup, an often very expensive dish associated with affluence. While we respect the Asian cultures that have traditionally served this soup, we acknowledge that shark meat is very high in mercury and the FDA warns that it could be dangerous to consumers' health.

Please show your commitment to health oceans and public health by passing California AB 376.
