Cut Congress' Salary Before Social Security

  • by: the 99.9%
  • recipient: Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction

We hear about the necessity to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. Elected representatives fight to protect the 2001 and 2003 tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.  This is not a good situation and the solutions are not coming together easily or quickly.

The obvious place to begin deficit reductions is to reduce expenditures created by our representatives.

We don't need to cut Government programs, we demand cuts to Government overhead. This includes salaries, benefits, office furniture, entertainment expenses, all the perks that members of Congress have grown accustomed to but don't really need.

We ask Congress to voluntarily cut their salaries, benefits, and perks.

We appreciate all the support from around the world.  Please, only US Citizens need to sign this petition.

We the undersigned do not need cuts to Government programs.  We demand cuts to Government overhead.

We the undersigned respectfully request members of Congress to take voluntary cuts in salary, benefits, and all perks

These voluntary cuts will help resolve the deficit in the short term and long term.  Voluntary cuts will demonstrate Congress' goodwill and willingness to share the pain in these harsh economic times.  Voluntary cuts will help to restore constituents good will and belief in representatives.

Thank you for your time and efforts.
