San Marcos Unified School District is re-assessing the entire district school boundaries and re-zoning schools because of overcrowding. The schools they are focusing on making changes the most are San Elijo Middle School and San Marcos High School. Buenavida and Rosemont residents are at most risk of getting switched out of these schools. Sign this petition to speak up that you want your homes to remain zoned in nearby community schools - south of the 78 - either the ones they are currently zoned for or newly built ones near our community.
We, the residents of these communities:
- spent significantly higher prices for our homes to have our children attend the newer state of the art facilities at SEMS and SMHS.
- chose our homes based on the high ratings and test scores of our zoned schools.
- pay higher property taxes for SEMS and SMHS
- want our children in nearby neighborhood schools to create more of a community feel
Moving our children to SMMS and MHHS north of the 78 will:
- cause issues/difficulty with traffic for drop-off and pick up
- disconnect our community
- decline our property values as the homes in the SMMS and MHHS zones are selling for 100K or more below that of the homes in the zones for SEMS and SMHS
Solutions:
- Build a new Middle School(Behind Kaiser off Craven)
- Build a new High School(La Mirada, Las Posas, Linda Vista)
- Make Mission Hills High School an IB Choice School rather than forcing us out of SMHS
- Make Disocvery Elementary, La Costa Meadows, and or Carillo Elementary a K-8 school
- Zone all the NEW developments being built to SMMS and MHHS
- Grandfather all the homeowners that bought prior to any zone change the ability to stay at the schools there were zoned for.
- Send us to Double Peak K-8 and SMHS
