Power Security for All

The electrical grid infrastructure in the United States and especially Kitsap County has not significantly been updated since the 1950's. The disastrous handling of power brokering and the focus on profit over service, since the deregulation of the 1980's, has reached a point of crisis. FEMA has stated that in event of a major disaster Kitsap County could be without power for up to a year! That would mean that 266,000 people would be without light, heat, essential service and basic needs for up to a year... This is unacceptable, and yet we accept it.
The remedy to this situation is to follow Germany's lead and develop a network of renewable generation installations, micro-grids and distributed delivery systems across Kitsap. It would be expensive on the front end but much more secure, cost effective, easier to maintain and upgrade and reliable in the long-run. It would also provide the model for the rest of the country to follow.
We are asking you to demand better from the utilities and our government leaders, to clearly state that our security is paramount, that continued power supply is a necessity not a desire. That we demand a system like Germany is developing, a model where we are paying for infrastructure and supplying our own power via solar, wind and other effective, renewable means. We demand that this situation be addressed for the safely, security and lives of all residents of Kitsap County.
