Tell the US FWS to Restore the Red Wolf Recovery Program!

  • by: Chris Wolverton
  • recipient: Dan Ashe, Director, US Fish and Wildlife Service

Our nation's red wolves face extinction following Fish and Wildlife's recent decision to discontinue proactive recovery efforts. Currently, only 50 to 75 red wolves remain in the wild.

Fish and Wildlife will continue to study red wolves, but they have halted efforts to actively sustain and protect their numbers. This includes a halt to their efforts to reintroduce additional wolves from captivity into the wild. After a review by the independent Wildlife Management Institute, scientists found the Service's efforts successful, and recommended an expansion of their program. Instead, the Service is scaling back.

Halting efforts to save red wolves is a death sentence for the species. It also wastes the time, money and resources spent to restore their numbers in the past.

Please sign the petition to urge Fish and Wildlife to restore the red wolf recovery program!

We, the undersigned, are very disappointed and concerned with your decision to discontinue proactive recovery efforts for our nation's red wolves.

As you know, after a review by the independent Wildlife Management Institute, scientists found your recovery efforts successful, and recommended an expansion of their program. We are surprised to learn that you are instead scaling back your efforts.

Halting efforts to save red wolves is a death sentence for the species. It also wastes the time, money and resources spent to restore their numbers in the past. We respectfully urge you to restore the red wolf recovery program. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
