We, undersigned, carers, neighbors, frequent visitors, and friends of Herbert Taylor Park and Daniel Johnson Park/Nature Preserve express our support for :
1. Either holding a fair, open and well publicized election of officers to Rock Creek Watershed Alliance by Saturday May 25, 2019, OR
2. If an election does not take place by May 25, 2019, we support creating a new group to collaborate and coordinate with the City of Atlanta, Dept of Parks and Recreation in stewarding, improving and maintaining these two parks, and to apply for "Friends of the Park" status with Park Pride.
Whereas Herbert Taylor Park and Daniel Johnson Park are two nature preserve-style public parks, owned by the City of Atlanta (Georgia USA), bordered by Johnson Rd, Pasadena Ave, Beech Valley Rd, Markan Dr, Anita Place and Helen Dr. in Morningside neighborhood.
Whereas these parks are managed by the City of Atlanta's Department of Parks and Recreation. In 1998, Rock Creek Watershed Alliance (RCWA) was organized as a Georgia nonprofit corporation initially for the preservation and monitoring of water quality in Rock Creek and its tributaries. RCWA has been recognized at times as a fiscal partner of Park Pride Atlanta, and funds from RCWA accounts at Park Pride have been used for the benefit of these parks.
Whereas Rock Creek Watershed Alliance should strive to be a good steward of public and private resources, including mobilizing volunteer efforts periodically, collaborating with other supportive groups, raising public awareness of our goals for the parks, and soliciting funding for the work. RCWA should follow the highest possible standards of governance including having regular, publicized open meetings and annual elections of officers. RCWA should also actively follow the Park Pride Memorandum of Understanding for Friends of the Park groups in Atlanta.
