Keep earth science for the sake of our future. Save our teachers from being excessed.

Yesterday, our principal announced that they will be doing cuts, due to budgeting. So as a result they will cancel our entire earth science program. This is bad news for both teachers and students. It dangerously affects students because it forces us to take harder courses, that many students do not end up passing. Only a small percentage of students in our school who take these courses now are passing. This means that a lot of us will not be able to graduate with advanced regents diplomas, and also means that our chances for scholarships can and will be lowered. Students will start failing classes more frequently, all because our budget is not being used for things that are actually significant for our education. When students start failing more courses, which based on statistics, they definitely will, our school will lose even more money.
Academy of American Studies is a humanities school, so our students struggle very much in science and math. They are taking what is proven to be the easiest science course away from us. We are also a school where 70% of us come from low income families. When they take away this course, our grades will slip, and we will not be able to receive scholarships for the colleges we cannot afford.
Also, the Academy is excessing many of our needed teachers. Our science teacher who has been here 15+ years, will not be here next year because he is being excessed. And there will be many more to follow. He's made a big impact on our school so our main question is, who's next?
Academy is listed as one of the top 100 public schools in NY city. If people see us canceling and removing our most significant and appreciated classes, who else will follow and do it next? We need to stop this now. Earth science is a safety net, and although it is only one course, it could help so many students, in our school especially, to make it to college.
