Bar Method Owners Seek to Retain Streaming Business DRAFT

Bar Method owners nationwide have been fighting to retain our clients and keep our businesses alive in the wake of a Global Pandemic. Livestreaming classes have been our only lifeline and source of revenue. SEB has recently announced replacing individual studio livestreaming with a corporate-produced and enhanced version of Bar Online and prohibiting individual studios from holding the virtual classes that have kept our clients active. The stated goal is to support their studios, but it will, in fact, have the opposite effect.

SEB plans to roll out their service in approximately eight weeks, perfectly timed to coincide with studios newly re-opened at half capacity or still closed. Owners will be forced to direct their client communities to an unfamiliar platform with unknown teachers. The fallout will be devastating and, in some cases, irreparable. To launch this service in the middle of a pandemic, with the real possibility that there may be a second wave, is insensitive at worst and egregious at best.

Even the promise of a share back, when the corporate pricing of its service will be, in some cases, 1/4 of studio pricing, will not drive meaningful revenue into our already damaged businesses. SEB will be competing with our studios in our territories.

The undersigned Bar Method owners are making a strong plea to SEB to suspend their plans for Livestream and/or allow studios to continue to livestream classes from their studios using their teachers, uniquely serving their client's and businesses' needs.
