Help save Penn High School’s valedictorian system

As of 12/17/2018, nearly 400 signatures were collected both on paper and online, asking Penn High School to keep the valedictorian distinctions. PHM is now considering a hybrid system with both valedictorian and Latin honors. The board will revisit this matter again on 1/28/2019.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Penn high School is currently considering removal of its longstanding valedictorian and salutatorian honors and corresponding recognition for the top 2% of its graduating class. Penn would also remove students' class rankings from report cards and transcripts, citing too much competitive pressure resulting from the existing policy.

We are proud of the success Penn has achieved in supporting students to reach their highest academic potential, and we believe that removing the valedictorian system will negatively impact PHM's academic excellence.

We therefore ask the PHM School Board to keep Penn's valedictorian and salutatorian distinctions.
