PETITION FOR FEDERAL SOLUTIONS FOR THE RI STATE PENSION

  • by: Tara E. Seger
  • recipient: Senators Reed and Whitehouse and US Congressmen Cicilline and Langevin

We, the citizens of Rhode Island, request your leadership in reforming the Rhode Island Pension crisis.

The Rhode Island State Pension has always had implications regarding the Federal Government, not the least of which are Social Security offsets that The Federal Government benefits from.

At this time, the state government is considering a freeze of the Cost of Living Adjustment, which not only hurts the most vulnerable, but takes money out of the entire US economy. Further, loyal employees have invested thousands into earning degrees, the pension system, Social Security and Medicare expecting their investments to be protected. When these investments were made, and careers were chosen, the retirement age was also reasonable, not 68 years of age.

As citizens of Rhode Island we have seen the Federal Government bailout banks, auto makers, and insurance companies.  We guess if the California Pension comes under pressure Representative Pelosi will lobby for her state at the Federal Level. We ask that you do the same for your loyal constituents.

Rhode Island has a long tradition of supporting Democratic politicians, and the National ticket.  Please support your loyal constituents and advocate for federal solutions for the Rhode Island Pension system.
