My name is Julie Pannell and I live in Australia, I have become aware recently of the large volume of animals being euthanised in KILL Shelters across America. I decided to contact your office with this petition as I have researched your history within politics and as a man with great caring for the environment and humanity. I am hoping that you will accept this petition even though I do not live in America but a lot of my friends and signatories on this petition do. Please consider the following.
Puppies, dogs, kittens and cats are being killed every day in your community animal pounds and KILL shelters. It is estimated that American "shelters" historically have slaughtered 280,000,000 dogs and cats every decade, that's equivalent to the entire human population of America.
Please end this tragedy. There has to be a way at Government level to bring in laws that protect our pets from harm. Beginning with the owners of pets to be held more accountable. For educating the community. For tougher legislation on Shelters and better maintenance of their systems in regard to fostering and pro longing life before the absolute last resort of euthanasia is considered.
So many many animals are brought in to shelters 2 or more times because of failed adoptions and fostering. They go immediately to the front of the KILL queue. Why? Usually poor excuses and unchecked excuses from the pets owner or strays. There are also many many animals that are not viewed by the public, hidden away at the back of shelters NEVER getting a chance. There are senior dogs that have been dumped by their owners that people don't want to see. There are abused, disabled animals that deserve a chance but are forgotten.
Every single animal in a shelter deserves a fair chance . There has to be a way that protects and supports these animals. Their lives matter. Just because some human decided to dump it. This is wrong.
Please support these animals. They deserve to live just as we humans do. They have done nothing wrong except be in the wrong place at the wrong time with an owner who isn't handling them right. All animals can co exist peacefully with humans if correctly treated.
My aim, here is to plead for the lives of those poor animals on death row.
