Demand for a Special Election to fill 3 vacancies on Westminster CO. City Council

We the undersigned citizens of Westminster Colorado demand that outgoing City Councilors Emma Pinter and Shannon Bird tender there resignations effective immediately from Westminster City Council. This will allow the Citizen of Westminster to have a voice through a Special Election in the selection of our new councilors that will replace both your positions and also that of recently resigned Councilor Maria De Cambra's.

According to the City Charter in Chapter III, Section 3.5, a Special Election may be called to fill vacancies when three occur simultaneously as set forth in the City Code, Section 1-11-4B.

Your immediate resignations will simplify the process, save time and money for city staff by eliminating the numerous public interviews, special City Council meetings and a roll call vote that are required for council appointments. This process would have to be duplicated again in January of 2019 if you delay your resignation until then.

It has always been the intention that Westminster City Council positions are non-partisan, both in how they are elected and how they represent and serve all the citizens of Westminster.

Your delay in submitting your resignation is seen as partisan, in that only you would be selecting replacements even though you have clear intentions to move on to higher elected office in less that a month.

There have been several issues these last few years that have served to divide the citizenry.  Delaying your resignation will only add to these healing division.

Please do the right thing and submit your resignations immediately and allow the citizens to be heard with a Special Election and allow the City Charter to work as the City Founders set forth.
