Senators Joe Manchin and Chuck Schumer sent shockwaves through Washington when they announced a historic climate and social spending deal, dubbed the "Inflation Reduction Act." It contains the largest climate investment in US history — $369 billion! — and staves off what would be a disastrous health insurance premium hike with the expiration of COVID-era ACA subsidies.
Passing this bill and delivering a surprise win for President Biden would be a huge boost for Democrats right before the pivotal midterm elections — but Sen. Kyrsten Sinema has still yet to indicate whether or not she'll support the deal hammered out by her conservative colleague.

The IRA bill is projected to reduce American emissions by 1 billion carbon tons, bring in $729 billion in new revenue, reduce the deficit, lowers prescription drug prices and extends Affordable Care Act subsidies through 2024 — all without raising taxes on working Americans.
There is zero reason this bill should not be signed into law as soon as possible. The future of our planet and possibly our democracy could be at stake.
