Commuter Parking

A COPY OF AN EMAIL TO CAMPUS SAFETY

I am so excited to be back at Anderson! First off I just wanted to say I respect and appreciate everything you guys do for us students and the campus as a whole. My fellow students (commuters) and I have a few concerns regarding parking. As a commuter it is listed that we are required to park in the specific lots. We believe this to be impractical, inefficient, and unfair.
1.Commuters are typically upperclassmen (Juniors and Seniors), who are encouraged to live off campus to make room for the sophomores and incoming freshman, are required to park farther away than residents. It feels we are being punished for following the encouragement to move off campus.
2.Schools typically do parking by seniority staring from outside and working their way in. We are wondering why we don't do something similar to that?
3.Geographic location is difficult. As an commuter trying to drive to AU in the morning you are fighting against school traffic from all angles.
4.Why are we allowing residents to park in both dorm lots and all public (SC, Thrift, Rainey, ect.) lots? Why do they need to drive .3 miles to get to class?
5. Campus is small enough residents can get to class in 10 minutes. Commuters no longer have the privilege of 10 minutes. I am a nursing student and the closest lot to park in is down by Whitakkers house, but that lot is already proving to be innifeicent and full to the max. Therefore, I have to park at the church lot and walking from that lot all the way to Vandiver will take some time.
6. Since students are required to live on campus their first 2 years why are they not required to park at the AC the first 2 years as well?

I haven’t recieved any response from anyone therefore I plan to print off all the signatures and comments and place a copy on campus safety along with the administrations desk on Monday.
