Youth Support and Empowerment

Many low-income youth do not have access to education or job training experience. This makes it difficult for youth to find jobs to support themselves in the future. No access to higher education or job skills put this population at risk for poverty. Increasing access to services such as job corps programs will increase the likelihood of underprivileged youth obtaining careers. This will allow eligible participants to gain the skills and experience they need to become successful as an adult. It will also contribute to a decrease in poverty.
This petition supports the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics (2017) value of social justice. This value represents social change for oppressed populations of people. It is stated that the value focuses on support for people experiencing poverty and unemployment. Many adolescents and young adults struggle with these. The value also focuses on access to services and equality of opportunity. Providing youth with resources they need to be successful in the future can have a positive affect on many underprivileged adults.
