The government of Botswana has hired 42West, a powerhouse Hollywood PR firm to create a public relations campaign to counter the expected bad publicity of reinstating elephant hunting. Botswana has been a relatively safe haven for elephants from the devastating poaching and loss of habitat plaguing elephant populations in neighbouring countries. Only an estimated 130,000 elephants remain in the wild, a third of them live in Botswana. An elephant is killed every 15 minutes of every hour of every day, a truly desperate and heartbreaking situation and an unacceptable one.
42 West will be paid $125,000 to begin the glossing over of the coming bloodbath. Please tell the firm´s two principals Allan Mayer and Leslee Dart and their premiere client Meryl Streep that elephants need our protection, not our collaboration to hasten their demise.
