Crosswalks on N. Greensboro Street!

Have you crossed North Greensboro on bike or foot at rush hour as car commuters are arriving to or leaving Carrboro-Chapel Hill? Have you seen others trying to cross, darting across the road during a brief break in traffic? If so, you've seen that it's frustrating and dangerous with car after car speeding by, often too close to the unprotected bike lanes, sometimes honking or even yelling at you to go to a crosswalk.  After all, crosswalks are necessary for pedestrian right of way in NC.  ...Yet, there's not a single crosswalk for 1.2 miles between Estes Dr. and James Street.

This is in a community that strives to be walkable and bikeable and has 2 elementary schools and 1 middle school with large residential "walk zones."  There aren't safe routes to school or work or play for too many children and adults in Carrboro. N. Greensboro is a busy road with a blind curve, high speed limit, and unprotected bike lanes. This is dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists, AND drivers.  We want change.

LET THE TOWN AND NCDOT KNOW HOW MANY OF US RESIDENTS DEMAND PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY. Sign this petition to show how many of us want additional crosswalks along N. Greensboro. Please add any comments about your desire for pedestrian improvements.

*This petition is to request that NCDOT and the Town move forward on pedestrian improvements in addition to those currently happening at N. Greensboro and Estes Drive Extension, which includes a new crosswalk on North Greensboro near Williams Street, another near Oak Avenue Extension, and the crosswalks incorporated into the roundabout.
