FWS - Put Permanent Nationwide End to Domestic Ivory Markets

Urgent help is needed!  In a continuing effort to protect the elephant and poaching them for their precious tusks, attempts persist in ceasing the sales of ivory.  Great strides have been taken in the trade of animal parts from elephants as well as tigers, rhinos and other endangered species but ivory markets continue to be a threat for pachyderm.

The Wildlife Conservation Society is taking a step further in looking for advanced support to encourage the FWS to put a nationwide ban on domestic ivory markets and sales.  Read more - https://secure3.convio.net/wcs/site/Advocacy;jsessionid=7AF47C269AEC00E6F4EAF0ED8588B012.app303a?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=817&utm_medium=email&utm_source=WCS&utm_campaign=owned&utm_content=2016-1-25-Alert1Test&s_src=CAMP_CITES-Alert&s_subsrc=Alert1Test&autologin=true. With an impending CITES or Conference of Parties (CoP17), who makes crucial decisions on the trade of these animal parts including the ivory, it is imperative that we speak out in another attempt to protect elephants.  Every day, elephants are slaughtered by poachers for profit of their body parts, namely their tusks and ivory. Some countries literally allow the sale of ivory, causing a continual threat to elephants.

Although we cannot control the ivory sales worldwide, the hope is that we shut them down nationwide throughout the United States.  Banning ivory markets is critical in the efforts to stop the poaching crisis affecting the slaughter of about 96 elephants daily throughout Africa.  In our efforts to shut down ivory markets nationwide, we have the exceptional opportunity to place the ivory bans on the global itinerary.

Our goals in this petition is to encourage the FWS to speak out at CITES impending meeting, asking for a nationwide ban on ivory market sales.  Such a proposal would protect elephants, rhinos and other endangered animals by standardizing or stopping such trades as the ivory markets.  We must ensure a ban on these markets and you can help us by signing and sharing this petition.

Fish & Wildlife Federation Services – We strongly urge you to put a permanent ban on the sale of domestic ivory and ensure these markets are on the global agenda.  With the CITES Conference of the Parties (CoP17), we want to ensure that the U. S. is taking a strong stand in closing all ivory markets nationwide in strong attempt to stop poaching of elephants and trafficking of their ivory. As a nation, we in the U. S. need to demonstrate extreme global leadership so that we can be an example in encouraging other countries to do the same.  Please show great leadership at the CoP17 to ban all ivory markets and sales which is a great step in protecting elephants and other endangered animals for future generations.
