Charge Rep. Gaetz With Witness Tampering For Threatening Michael Cohen

Ahead of a highly-anticipated hearing with Trump's former lawyer and "fixer" Michael Cohen, Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) took it upon himself to issue a thinly-veiled threat on Twitter:

"Hey @MichaelCohen212 - Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she'll remain faithful when you're in prison. She's about to learn a lot..."

Matt Gaetz was clearly trying to scare Cohen into silence to preclude him from giving any damning testimony against Trump, which – for a sitting U.S. Representative — is beyond the pale. His tweet has been called witness tampering by a myriad of attorneys who have weighed in.

As one of Trump's favorite Congressmen, Gaetz was clearly performing for an audience of one, but his sycophantic behavior is not only inappropriate — it's illegal. He should be disbarred for this decision alone, which is an issue for the Florida Bar to take up, but prosecutors also have an obligation to uphold the laws. And this misguided decision by the Florida Republican must have consequences.

We, the undersigned, demand Matt Gaetz be charged with witness tampering for his threats against Michael Cohen.
