Why This Petition Matters
Sexual violence during armed conflict is a grave violation of human rights and human dignity. Thousands of women, men, and children were subjected to sexual violence during the Kosovo conflict, yet too many survivors still live with stigma, silence, poverty, and trauma, often without the justice, recognition, and long-term support they deserve.
Today, survivors of conflict-related sexual violence in Kosovo continue to face social exclusion, economic hardship, and barriers in accessing specialized health, psychosocial, and legal services. Many have waited decades for public acknowledgement, reparations, and a system that fully recognizes their rights and protects them from discrimination and secondary victimization.
Survivors of wartime sexual violence are not only victims of the past, they are members of our communities who need ongoing solidarity, protection, and opportunities to rebuild their lives. Breaking the silence around sexual violence in conflict is essential to preventing denial, combating stigma, and ensuring that such crimes are never repeated.
