Tell The New Congress To Stop Trump's Brutal Attacks On Civilians At The Border

Months of politicizing the asylum seekers on the southern border as "invaders," "criminals," and "gang members" has finally culminated into an act of unconscionable aggression as U.S. authorities launched tear gas into crowds with women and children.

This is not a partisan issue, this is about humanity and basic decency, and we call on the U.S. Congress to pass legislation stopping Trump from ever attacking civilians in such a brutal and barbaric way again.

Unsurprisingly, the Trump administration defended the use of force and the subsequent closing of the San Ysidro border crossing. Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen claimed it was "to ensure public safety in response to large numbers of migrants seeking to enter the U.S. illegally." Trump himself took to Twitter to threaten to "close the border permanently," a move that is both unprecedented and illegal.

Despite the constant barrage of thinly veiled hate speech and fear mongering from the right, seeking asylum is not illegal and these people are not invaders, but human beings seeking a better life for themselves and their families. Some who have escaped certain death are now being turned away because of — let's face it — the color of their skin.

Since the outset of his campaign for president, he has demonized the Latinx people, baselessly referring to them as "rapists" and "drug dealers." While he and his sycophants now claim that those seeking asylum are dangerous, his intentions have always been clear: stop all immigration and keep America white.

We, the undersigned, demand that Congress stop Trump from engaging in these inhumane tactics. We will not stand for these crimes against humanity occurring in a country built by immigrants.

This is not the America we know and we demand action.
