Police in the Staten Island, New York area barged into Ms. Evelyn Lugo’s home without even a warrant and she is suing them for police brutality. Ms. Lugo is a mom of 10 children who stated that the police entered the home and beat family members with batons, as well as killing her beloved parakeet.
The whole incident began when one of the sons was taking garbage out. The cops passing by noticed an orange construction cone in the front of the home, used to save a parking spot. The officers then demanded to see the son’s identification, and he refused, stating he did nothing wrong. The cop grabbed his arm, but he broke away in fear and ran into the home. Even though there was no violation noted, this is where the abuse and cruelty began.
The cops smashed in windows of the home on the first-floor and when Ms. Lugo came to address the situation and see what was happening, the police barged into the home, beating the other family members in the head and pepper spraying the children.
Then, one of the cops callously and heartlessly killed their pet parakeet. He was ejected from his cage after it was knocked off of the dresser it was sitting. Ms. Lugo’s daughter witnessed the abuse and was extremely upset, screaming not to hurt it -- instead, the officer purposed stepped on the bird. The family could not bring themselves to tell the mother of her bird’s demise because of her attachment and love for her pet; she would be hysterical about the news. All this over an orange traffic cone!
Life has been traumatic for the family and Ms. Lugo filed a lawsuit against these officers who tormented the family and killed their family pet. You need to investigate the officers that are guilty of barging into a home without a warrant, beating the entire family with batons, tossing their pet parakeet on the ground and stomping on it. Is this how you train your officers to serve and protect their citizens?
This family did nothing wrong that warranted such brutal behavior! They should not use brute force to begin with and the only thing the family was guilty of was placing an orange cone in front of their home to save a parking spot. The officers acted cruelly and abusively! Further investigate their actions and punish these cops to the full extent of the law!
