SUPPORT THE CHANGE OF EL CAMPO ISD RESTRICTING DRESS CODE

El Campo ISD has a history of a dress code that the students and community strongly oppose. Recently the El Campo School Board has released a dress code for the upcoming school year that supports out of date socionorms and restricts the self-expression of students. Students are required to wear solid color collared shirts, logos are not to exceed 3x3, boys aren't allowed to have hair past their collar, students aren't allowed to wear sweatpants, yoga pants, or tights, boys aren't allowed to have naturally occurring facial hair, jackets and hoodies have to be a solid color and the logo can't exceed 3x3, boys aren't allowed to wear earrings, and head coverings are banned. There is little to no support for this dress code by the parents yet the school board claims they are doing what is in favor of the community. Many people will tell students to just comply and that school is about learning and not clothes. This is about more than just clothes though. This is about the students being stripped of their ability to express themselves. Kids and Teens are in a stage of self-discovery and psychologists have shown that self-expression plays a crucial role in that self-discovery. The limitation of self-expression has been shown to cause low self-esteem and depression in the transition into adulthood. Sign and share this petition to show the El Campo School Board that the community does not support them as they say!
