Over the past 10 plus years the residents of the Village at Dorset Park (VDP) have repeatedly attempted to address the safety concerns of our residents with regard to vehicles travelling well in excess of our 25 mph speed limit. Our Homeowner Association has raised the issue in association meetings, we have had the South Burlington Police Department install speed monitoring devices in the VDP on at least two occasions, and individual residents in our community have discussed the issue directly with some of the violators. None of these steps have proved successful.
The safety of our children is at risk. Many of our neighbors regularly witness vehicles traveling in excess of the speed limit posted along both legs of Brand Farm Drive, as well as disregard for pedestrians at our main crosswalk sign and flashing light. We have a very large and growing population of young children living and playing in Dorset Park as many VDP residents chose this community as being family friendly and safe. However, we have growing concerns about vehicle safety issues and a real fear that these violations could result in a true tragedy.
We feel strongly that installing speed humps along the Western and Eastern sides of Brand Farm Drive will help slow motorists down and make them more aware of the many young ones that walk and bike throughout this neighborhood. We want to ensure that our children are afforded a safe and secure place to grow up in and that our parents can feel comfortable with their children's safety.
Please note that we are asking for the installation of the larger, rolling speed "humps" NOT the small, jarring speed "bumps".
