PETITION FOR A CROSSWALK ACROSS COAST HWY 101 AT BUENA VISTA AUDUBON NATURE CENTER

Crossing Coast Hwy 101 is dangerous, since there are no crosswalks across Coast Highway near the BVAS Nature Center.

Pedestrians are constantly crossing back and forth at this location, for fishing, bicycling, walking, and other activities. Many locals park at the Nature Center and cross Coast Highway to fish from the bridge. With the new path on the west side of Coast Highway, the number of pedestrians and cyclists has increased; many cross over to the Nature Center to use the facilities. Over the past few years, traffic has greatly increased on the Coast Highway, becoming more and more dangerous for pedestrians to cross.

BVAS now owns the land across the street and has begun regular work parties to remove trash and engage in habitat restoration. Participants must be able to safely cross the highway; they need access to the Nature Center for parking, restrooms, and tools.

The City of Oceanside owns the BVAS Nature Center and parking lot and therefore has a stake in this issue.

Update #17 years ago
Thank you all for signing this petition! We have now closed the petition and are preparing it to deliver to the City of Oceanside. We received over 300 signatures, mainly from North County San Diego but also many from other cities in San Diego County. Delivering the petition to the City of Oceanside is the first step in a long process to convince them that this crosswalk is desperately needed! Thank you, all, for your part in this process!
