Preserve the New Road Corridor in Lewes, DE and Protect the Great Marsh

The Groome United Methodist Church in Lewes was engaged in negotiations to sell their 135 acre parcel on New Road to a coalition of businessman and local government officials who were trying to purchase the land to place in conservation. Unfortunately, the church's minister signed a contract with a developer instead and did not give the conservation group an opportunity to counter.

In an effort to encourage the Groome Methodist Church to reverse its' decision to sell their property on New Road for development, and instead sell it for conservation, the New Road Preservation Alliance has been collecting signatures at various Lewes locations for the last few weeks. We quickly received a thousand signatures in person and will continue to accumulate more. These signatures were provided to the church officials. We hope that we will reach a broader audience and collect even more signatures through this online petition. Visit our website at www.preservelewes.com for more information or to get involved.

SIGN THE PETITION:

We the undersigned respectfully request that Groome Methodist Church located on Savannah Road in the City of Lewes reconsider its' decision to sell property owned by the Church on New Road to a developer whose intent is to build numerous houses on land that is environmentally sensitive and that, alternatively, the Church accept the generous offer to preserve it as open space and to maintain its' agricultural use in a conservation easement restricting development.
