I'm Angela 39 yrs old from Long Ilsand New York ,I'm living near Apple Valley in California's Mojave Desert, working to rebuild my life after escaping long-term abuse. I've lived through the shelter system before—after losing my parents, I tried that route. It wasn't supportive, and it wasn't safe. This time, I've chosen something different: independent survival on public land, lawful, quiet, and far enough from harm to heal with dignity.
I live with my cat in my little old RV, and together we've built a peaceful life off the grid. But surviving out here through extreme heat, limited resources, and lack of official recognition is no easy feat. Survivors like me—who live outside shelter systems—deserve visibility and humane access to emergency aid without being forced into systems that don't work for us.
I'm asking for your signature to push for:
-
Expanded emergency aid options that reach rural and desert survivors
-
Recognition of independent survival as valid and courageous
-
Policies that protect and uplift those rebuilding outside traditional channels
