That's why we are calling on Cumberbatch's co-stars in Avengers: Infinity War to make the same public pledge for pay equality and refuse to act in movies where women are paid less than their male co-stars. When even high-profile actresses cannot receive the same pay as their male counterparts, it sends a dangerous message that women everywhere — in all type of careers — need to settle for less money than their male coworkers. On average, Women in the US earn less than 80 cents for every dollar paid to their male colleagues.
And this pay gap is even more striking for women of color. On average Black women make only
63 cents and Latinx women only
54 cents to the dollar paid to their white male counterparts — for the same work.
That's why it's so important for heroes, like the Avengers, to brave and publicly speak up to end this sexist practice.
