Demand TripAdvisor Stop Deleting Users' Sexual Assault Warnings

Travel review website TripAdvisor has been deleting users warnings of sexual assault and rape for years.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has found at least a dozen cases where TripAdvisor repeatedly deleted users warnings about sexual assault, rape, and unexpected blackouts at Mexican resorts.

Over the course of seven years, three different women were assaulted at a Mexican resort and when they tried to warn others on TripAdvisor of their experience, the site repeatedly deleted their posts. The site claimed their first-hand accounts of sexual assault were “hearsay” or not “family-friendly” and violated their content policies.

Other women who reported blacking out after being served small amounts of alcohol also had their warnings deleted.

While on the surface, the site looks like an open and honest place to review travel experiences and accommodation, hotels pay TripAdvisor when users book hotel stays or click on their links. These reviews are not as unbiased as they appear and in fact by withholding information TripAdvisor is putting its users at risk.

Demand that TripAdvisor stop jeopardizing women’s lives and safety and change their company policies, immediately.
