We call upon the United States to lead a global effort to prevent nuclear war by encouraging all nations to create domestic policy and international treaties:
• renouncing the option of using nuclear weapons first
• ending the sole, unchecked authority of any leader to launch a nuclear attack
• taking nuclear weapons off hair-trigger alert
• canceling plans to modernize their nuclear arsenal and
• dismantling their nuclear arsenals and prohibiting the possession of nuclear weapons - worldwide.
The Doomsday Clock created by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists currently indicates that the probability of nuclear war is at its highest historic level.
Most of my friends and relatives reside in cities that are likely targets of nuclear attack by adversaries of Canada or USA.
