Indigenous People Are Not Mascots. Demand the Chiefs Change Their Racist Name!

The 2023 Super Bowl is quickly approaching, and with it the painful reminder for Indigenous folks that they are still the targets of racism, appropriation, and disrespect. The Kansas City Chiefs have been asked repeatedly by Indigenous groups to change their name, and their failure to do so is a racist stain on Super Bowl Sunday.

Stand with Indigenous people in the United States! Sign the petition to demand the Kansas City Chiefs change their racist name.

Not only does the name – appearing on shirts, posters, in TV spots and radio commercials, spread everywhere before the big game – personally victimize each and every Indigenous person that must encounter it. It also encourages terrible behavior from Kansas City fans, like the tomahawk chop, singing stereotypical songs, and wearing offensive headdresses. The Kansas City Chiefs are actively fueling racism on a million dollar scale – and the Super Bowl will bring it into the billions.

If the Kansas City Chiefs changed their name, it would be a simple but exponentially powerful tool of inclusion, equality, and a huge sign of respect towards the Indigenous people they have objectified for so long.

Sign the petition and ask the Kansas City Chiefs to finally get on the right side of history, and change their name!

Please remember to also sign the petition from Not in Our Honor, an advocacy group made up of and supporting Indigenous People.
