Ohio, Demand that Family Lifelines are Allowed Normal Visiting at ALL TIMES!

  • by: Elderly Advocates
  • recipient: Governor DeWine, State Representatives & Senators, Ursula McElroy

It has been one year since residents have not had consistent & regular visits with their families. With the vaccine, they are now protected as much as possible. We have to learn to live with covid even in long-term care. It is far too long to wait until there is no covid, and that may never happen.  These vulnerable residents had most of their safeguards taken away. Too many residents sufferered with an immunity law that left no accountability for poor care, no meaningful outside oversight, and they were denied the support, assistance, protection, and advocacy their families were always there to give before this pandemic. Many have mentally and physically declined due to these conditions, many died without the crucial help they needed from their families. It is time to allow at minimum, one family primary support person in rooms at all times in a safe way until all can visit.

The families will not write off their moms, dads, sisters, brothers and other families members. They will not accept that they will no longer be the big part of their lives they were before the crisis. A year is enough. Time for meaningful solutions and a plan just like they had for the bars, restaurants, schools, sports. Yes, there are more challenges in congregated settings, but we cannot ignore those challenges anymore, we need a plan, we need to figure it out! It is not right to discriminate against elders because of where they live or what handicaps they live with. They are important too!

Please sign now to Demand  policymakers restore the right to a resident to have access to rheir Primary Support Person (Resident Representative) at all times as before the pandemic.

Federal Law recognizes Resident Representatives are as important as Physicans, Ombudsmans and APS is to a resident. Demand the state ackowledge this as well and give them access!
