Lower the Speed Limit on Alicante Rd

For over two years our HOA has been working with the City of Carlsbad to address the speed limit on Alicante Rd and improve the safety for the pedestrians crossing at Alicante and Lapis to access the pool and pond.

At our yearly cul-de-sac Thanksgiving dinner the hottest topic at my table was how dangerous it is for pedestrians to cross at Lapis and the overall speed at which cars move through Alicante, particularly for those of us who have blind corners at our neighborhood intersections.

I reached out to Walter's Management to inquire about the situation and the answer I got back was that they've been working on it for over 2 years and the City will listen better and react faster if the message comes directly from the homeowners.   This petition is what the HOA needs to successfully advocate appropriate and timely changes.

Note that on Alicante north of Poinsettia the speed limit is 30 MPH.  Conversely, on Alicante South of Alga it's 40 MPH, where just last year there was a fatal car accident.   40 MPH is too fast for neighborhood streets, particularly when it's not uncommon for many people to drive 5 MPH over any speed limit.

By digitally signing this petition you are saying that you agree and support the LaCosta Greens HOA in working with the city to reduce (no less than 30 MPH) the speed limit on Alicante between Alga and Poinsettia, and to implement reasonable and appropriate safety measures at the intersection of Lapis and Alicante e.g. flashing pedestrian cross walk.

Thank you,

Dan Tomassi
