Appropriate Charges For Man Who Allegedly & Intentionally Harmed Eagles on Road

Police in Alaska report that witness came forward to claim a man in a pickup truck purposely ran over some eagles when traveling down a road. The witness was a jogger who saw the truck leaving the scene after hitting several bald eagles. Police Chief Jamie Sunderland states that "Somebody called us and said there was someone who had ran over an eagle. They said there was blood, and it was flopping around, that someone should come put it down."

On the scene of the accident, authorities discovered that there were two dead birds and two others that were injured. The witness gave a description of the alleged Ford truck with a company loco on it that was seen involved in the accident, which led to the apprehension of a Mr. Thompson from Union, Oregon. Although the man is facing some minor charges, the Eagle is a highly protected bird under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. It is a federal crime to kill or harm a bald eagle!

Help us through this petition to ensure that, if found guilty of these charges, Mr. Thompson gets more serious charges and punishment for killing and harming these bald eagles. Let us stand up for these protected and majestic birds and get justice for the killed and injured birds.

Clinton M. Campion, District Attorney – Mr. Thompson of Union, Oregon, who allegedly ran over and killed two bald eagles while injuring two others needs to be charged more appropriately. If he is guilty of the charges of killing two of these federally protected birds and injuring two others, he needs to be facing some serious charges that would require stiff fines and jail time. Even if it were an accident, he left the scene without reporting it, leaving the birds there to suffer and die. If it were not for the witness, chances are all would have perished and the man scot-free to harm other animals. With such a serious situation, and continuing animal cruelty and abuse, consider implementing an animal cruelty registry (similar to that of a sex-offenders registry) and ensure that people who harm any animals in any way be placed on that registry in an effort to ensure the safety of all animals, including those federally protected.
