Many people in New York State (NYS) are being scammed out of hundreds, or thousands, of dollars through NYS Thruway Authority. Whether you have EZ-Pass or not, individuals are being excessively charged for using tolls and bridges throughout NYS. "Bills" are supposedly mailed out monthly, but many people state they never got a bill and are charged at least 50 times the original price of the toll. People are being charged $50/$100, in addition to the cost of the toll, per use as a late fee on a toll or bridge unbeknownst to them. Individuals have indicated that NYS is charging license plates or vehicles not registered to the owner, and refusing to dismiss claims. There is no reason to charge individuals that amount of money due to NY's faulty system. Yes, we understand the use of tolls, but cash-less tolls are resulting in increasing paper use, non-regulated documentation, and an increasing problem among bridges, tunnels, and exits throughout the state.
Using regular booths allowed EZ-Pass individuals to still pay a reduced fee. There is no doubt that other users would be willing to pay a full dollar, wait in line for a few minutes, reduce the amount of paper use (due to mailing bills), and/or help people save on hundreds of dollars from late fees.
We believe that this is an on-going issue, and something needs to be done to protect the people of NYS. Please sign this petition to have an improved system for toll billing and change additional fee amounts to a more reasonable amount.
