Demand LGBTQ Americans Be Included in the 2020 Census

The Census Bureau has backtracked on an earlier draft of the 2020 census that would've reported LGBTQ Americans. This would be significant, as no census prior had ever tracked the size of the community - making it difficult to place a number on how large the community actually is. This has proved challenging for federal agencies who want to get a grasp on the needs on the LGBTQ community and it's scope.

"The... report released today inadvertently listed sexual orientation and gender identity as a proposed topic in the appendix," the U.S. Census Bureau said to NBC News, confirming that the LGBTQ portion had been taken out. "This topic is not being proposed to Congress for the 2020 Census or American Community Survey. The report has been corrected."

The Census Bureau has an opportunity in 2020 to finally get a grasp of the size and scope of the LGBTQ community in America.

Join me in urging the CB to reconsider and include LGBTQ Americans in their census survey.
