As a newly formed grassroots citizens' group, " A BETTER CLAREMONT (ABC)" in Claremont NH, it's as easy as "ABC" to see that our community will receive very little benefit and much potential harm from a construction and demolition (C&D) disposal facility proposed by American Recycling. This proposed year-round facility, located on a open slab on a very small ( 1.5 acre) site, would process between 300-500 tons C&D waste DAILY, trucked in from all over New England, loaded into railroad cars at Claremont Junction, and shipped out to Ohio for disposal. This is many times greater than the tonnage presently generated by the City of Claremont. The potential negative impact on residents and businesses is real and must be stopped. There are many families living nearby as well as an elementary school. Contamination of the area is highly likely, with greatly increased truck traffic all over Claremont and the surrounding region. Also affected will be a nearby stream and wetland, where residenst have noted much wildlife. This project is in the wrong location and is the wrong design for such a facility.
