Sustainable and humane solutions for managing Woodland Park's deer population

On Sept. 19, the Woodland Park City Council will vote on a plan of action regarding the city’s deer population and ways to manage the herd. The council is addressing this issue because of perceived hazards including deer-car collisions. The council is considering a controlled hunt within city limits. We believe a legal hunt, or “culling” is not the answer, and it is not a solution to managing the city’s deer population. We believe the city should implement non-lethal solutions, including signage and education programs and give those solutions some time before they sign off on a hunt. We urge the city council to look for more sustainable and humane solutions.
