Stop Development on the Corner of Poplar Tent and Harris Road

The issue is the proposed new housing development on the corner of Poplar Tent Rd and Harris Rd in Concord NC 28027 (10300 corner). A new development of 300 apartments, 130 townhomes and space for future commercial space will create severe traffic congestion. The traffic congestion in the area is already cumbersome on residents and other drivers.

This intersection is already undergoing construction of medical office space and approved for 91 townhomes.
The one lane roads cannot handle this proposed additional traffic. At a minimum, let's assume 1 vehicle per residence. That would be an additional 521 vehicles travelling daily. We know there will likely be 1 vehicle per licensed driver, so that number will be greater. The roads need to be widened first for safety and usability reasons.
The second issue is the resulting negative impact to surrounding schools. There is rezoning taking place due to the 3 new developments on Cox mill road. Some of those homes will be rezoned to WR Odell.

Odell is near capacity with the existing neighborhoods. Assuming 1 child per household that is school age, that's an additional 521 students (2 townhome communities, one apartment community). This will likely put Odell over capacity. There is also a senior community being built off poplar tent near Cox mill road which will add to congestion.

Harris Rd., Poplar Tent, and Eastfield Rd should be widened to 2 lanes each way before considering any additional housing developments.
New Elementary and Middle schools should be planned prior to new multi-unit housing developments. North Carolina passed a law (H90) earlier this year mandating smaller class sizes for grades K - 3 which must be met over the next 4 years. This further supports the need for schools before new multi-unit developments.

Let's add a library, a park, and or restaurants on that corner as these are all needs in this area.
