Demand for Health Centres for all Aboriginal Peoples

Aboriginal Peoples are the first people of Canada. Over the last 200 years, these people have faced neglect, sexual abuse, physical assaults, murder and theft of land where they were subjected to culturally destructive polices of the Indian Act; it controlled every aspect of their lives.

Institutions such as residential school systems forcibly took children out of families and taught them that everything they had ever known was wrong and evil. Among those who suffered these traumatic situations, are the survivors who are alive today to share their horrid stories. These events have lived in their memories. Their born and unborn generations will continue to suffer the attempted cultural genocide imposed by colonizers and their plans to control this land and profit off its resources.

Today, there are funding and jurisdictional gaps in health care of many on-reserve communities and in remote locations. This is caused by the Aboriginal Health Policy in Canada. It's complicated "patchwork" of policies, legislation and agreements that delegate responsibility between federal, provincial, municipal and Aboriginal Governments in different ways and in different parts of the country (NCCAH, 2011).

We are demanding the Federal Government to provide funding to bridge those gaps. We are offering a suggestion that the Federal Government uses funding to create mobile wellness units that serve on-reserve and remote communities. Each community will identify their specific needs and the wellness unit will bring those services to the community. There is a need for a "call for action".

Support your Aboriginal brothers and sisters by signing our petition and demanding health care equality for every single person in Canada.

The disease and health issues that Aboriginal Peoples in Canada suffer from a disproportionates to non-Aboriginal people. Most of Canada has easy access to health care, on-reserve Aborignials are lacking this access. There is a lack in funding from the Federal Government and jurisdictional gaps exist within Aborignial health care services.

Canada has not been suportive of Aborignial communitie; this has continued for more than 200 years. Since 2008, when the Federal Government recognized the horrific damage caused by the residential school systems and offered a statement of apology. To date, not enough has been done to create a real sense of truth and reconcilliation.
