I started this petition about a year ago because my former high school, and other schools in my area, use the Native American image as a mascot. I am Native American myself, belonging to the Pokagon Band of Potowatomi. It is time we recognize the Native American cultre for what it is, a living breathing culture that still exists. Native Americans are not a thing of the past. It has been said before "my culture is not your costume." It is time to give that respect to everyone, and more importantly within a place of education that claims to support diversity. I have sent my school, and the others, a letter about the need for a change (you can copy and paste the link below if you would like to read it).
