Whereas American James Edwin Coyle was a Roman Catholic priest who worked as a teacher and rector at the McGill Institute for Boys in Mobile, Alabama;
And whereas he became a pastor of the Cathedral of Saint Paul in Birmingham, Alabama in 1905 where he was well loved and respected by his congregation;
and whereas he was the chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, Alabama Council 666;
and whereas he was murdered by a member of the Ku Klux Klan on August 11, 1921, for converting his only daughter to Catholicism and marrying her to a Puerto Rican Roman Catholic;
and whereas this qualifies Father Coyle as a martyr for the Roman Catholic Church;
therefore, we the undersigned humbly request that his holiness, Pope Francis I, consider Father James Edwin Coyle as a candidate for beatification in the Roman Catholic Church.
