Such a dream, sailing calmly in Greece, isn't it? This photo is from serene Poros Island in the Saronic Gulf, and I regret to tell you that Poros is in trouble. In brief, a newly created 'Frankenstein' merger of 5 fishfarms named "Avramar Industries' plans to take over 1/4th of our Island for building roads and factories for their massive fishfarm operation! This is yet another disaster that our Municipality and small population of 4,000 need to stop. One fishfarm operation has been tolerated for a number of years here, and we've seen the damage that has done. The Greek Parliament has recently voted to allow it, only because the bill was hidden in a much larger one that had nothing to do with industry and was not discussed, and other politicians are stockholders in this industry. Greed has no borders!
According to the most recent study, the proposal made by Avramar Industries will DAILY release 14.8 tons of feces (corresponding to a city of 33,500 inhabitants), food waste, toxic medicines such as formaldehyde, landfill waste, etc. into our sea! So not only Poros will suffer pollution but it will spread to other islands in the Saronic Gulf like Hydra and Spetses and their 'factories', located directly south of Aegina Island and Methana harbor on the mainland too. Join us in stopping this monstrous travesty! This is the Challenge we are up against - a David and Goliath story which, with your help, can have the same good ending!
Bless you for adding your name and sharing with your friends from everywhere on this earth! Your email will only be used by this site when I add updates, unless you opt-out of those. Keep well!

An important press conference on the issue of the creation of fish-industrial zones in the Saronicos held on Monday 10.1.2022. All SG Mayors made it clear that tourism is the only choice for the Saronicos. Regional and Deputy Governors presented the study showing the importance of tourism here vs fish farming. Finally, there was the commitment to transfer the debate to the top political leadership responsible for how the Region will be judged from now on. We await the revised plan. Keep sharing

Update #2about a month ago
"The vote Dec 23 - a few stable and active supporters of Poros and the rest of the affected coastal areas in their fight against fish-industrialization. The vote for is a highly disappointing - albeit expected - development, which sets Poros into the firing line, along with 20 other regions of the country. It is obvious that the Municipality and the residents of Poros will not wait for their execution, but will do what was promised in the Government, with which they are now in war conflict."

Bravo!! Thank you all who helped with your signatures to make this a WIN, not only for Poros but for all the Attiki region~ "With a historically important Decision on 25.11.2020, the Regional Council of Attica gave a negative opinion on the Study for the creation of a fish-industrial zone (POAY) in Poros and fully adopted the requests of the Municipality of Poros, as well as other coastal Municipalities of the country.
