Cruel practices continue every day that involves the slaughtering of young harp seals throughout Canada. These poor animals fall victim to being shot and bludgeoned for commercial purposes. Canada’s new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s administration represents a new opportunity to finally end the seal killing, as they are also working on a new era of fiscal responsibility and kindness by ending federal subsidies of the commercial seal slaughter. Many areas of the country including Russia, the EU and the U.S. have banned seal product imports. Although this is an ongoing issue, we need to raise our voices now more than ever and urge Canada to take necessary steps to protect seals from slaughter and cruelty, also banning seal product imports.
The effort in this petition is to do just that and ask the Prime Minister to stop the killing and slaughter of seals each year for commercial purposes and help sealers to transition into other industries more sustainable and without engaging in cruelty to animals. You can help us in these efforts by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own comments and thoughts.
Canada's new Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau – It is commendable that your administration represents a new opportunity to finally end the seal killing, as they are also working on a new era of fiscal responsibility and kindness by ending federal subsidies of the commercial seal slaughter. However, I am appalled to know that your government still allows hunters to continually slaughter seals on an annual basis. Many other countries has stopped such slaughter and banned the import of seal products. We encourage you to stop supporting the cruel and wasteful seal slaughter that is corrupting your country's reputation abroad, and instead help sealers transition into other industries.
