STOP the Illegal Megatowers Approved for the Lower East Side and PASS the Full CWG!

Mayor de Blasio has been pushing his pro-developer agenda that displaces tenants, workers and small businesses to enrich the 1%. In the Lower East Side, he illegally approved four out-of-scale megatowers that would make the neighborhood unaffordable and destroy the environment. Moreover, he refused to pass the Chinatown Working Group Rezoning Plan (CWG), which would stop luxury high-rises like these towers, and mandate any new development on public land be truly affordable to the community of Chinatown AND the Lower East Side.

But our community has shown strength and determination when we recently won an extended injunction in the NYS Supreme Court against the towers, until the Court makes its final decision. It shows that, when people organize, the Mayor's displacement agenda can be defeated!

We need to take the future of the community into our own hands. Therefore, we are petitioning Mayor de Blasio and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson to:
1. Stop the four luxury towers that would decimate the neighborhood
2. Pass the FULL Chinatown Working Group Rezoning Plan that would protect both Chinatown and LES from displacement.

We urge Council Speaker Johnson to stand with the community, and not be like Mayor de Blasio or Councilwoman Chin.

WE WON!
In late February, Judge Engoron agreed with the community's argument that the towers violate the zoning of the area which prevents developments that damage the environment and displace residents. The community stopped the Mayor and the City government from destroying the Two Bridges neighborhood and YOU helped us achieve this!

NOW we need to pass the full Chinatown Working Group Plan (CWG) to protect Chinatown & the Lower East Side for generations to come! www.chinatownworkinggroup.com

Update #14 years ago
The recent court decision reverses the approval of the megatowers. The Judge has disagreed with Mayor de Blasio's support for rich developers at the expense of the community. However, it dictates that the towers must now go through ULURP, which allows Council Member Chin to go with the Mayor to approve the towers. The community is not deceived. Join us for a press conference Sunday, August 4 at 3pm at 265 Cherry St as we come together to demand the City: No Towers, Pass FULL CWG Plan!
