Trump and His Cronies Just Gutted the Endangered Species Act

The Endangered Species Act, passed in 1973, is one of the most important wildlife protection pieces of legislation to ever pass in the United States. It is responsible for saving the bald eagle, the American alligator, the California condor, the humpback whale and the grizzly bear from extinction. It's also responsible from keeping evil companies from destroying the land that is the natural habitat of these creatures and more. But we know who's side Trump is on in this debate and he's proven that yet again by weakening the ESA drastically so that those very companies and drill and destroy our precious lands.

Please sign the petition today to speak out about this move by Trump and his corporate buddies.

The way Trump went about weakening the ESA was greatly diminishing the amount of land that will be protected for wildlife habitat and plant habitat. Not only is this devastating to those plants and animals, it will also have a huge impact on the survival of the human species. A U.N. report came out showing that the disappearance of plants and animals will actually make it hard for humans to survive as well; we exist in an ecostystem just like every other animal and this move is shortsighted when it comes to our very own survival.

In addition to opening up federal lands to corporate destruction, the Trump rules weakened the ESA such that it will be more challenging to predict which species are threatened by climate change. This will mean we don't even know survival of certain plants and animals are at risk until it's too late to do anything about it. Another huge change is that now the "economic cost" of protecting lands will be considered. But this isn't what it might sound like, all this means is that corporations who could make money by killing off plant and animal species will be considered more heavily than the survival of species.

Essentially, Trump has done what he always does: ignore climate science and prioritize the needs of huge, corrupt corporations over the needs of the people and the environment. Please sign the petition to show your opposition. The rules will continue to be challenged in court and we need your support!
