Say "No" to building Industrial building in Residential area
In response to the current proposed change of zoning for the proposed Animal Shelter and Hospital from Residential to Commercial/Industrial, we residents are opposed. The residents of the area are not against animals but against consideration of the council to consider putting one in such an already trafficked area. Most of the residents have pets and love animals but have to deal with traffic congestion daily. It should be noted that a
Veterinary Hospital is not needed in NW Fresno as we already have HOPE Animal Foundaton, All Creatures Veterinary Clinic, and Pamoist Pet Hospital within a close distance.
The proposed site is in a currently traffic constricted area and will contribute further to this problem we face daily. The traffic flow and commuters are restricted by only having two egresses over 99, W. Shaw & W. Herndon. This also directly impacts Emergency Medical Services in response to emergencies. Our infrastructure is outdated and no life-line is being thrown to the NW Fresno district 2 residents. The approval of such an addition, namely an animal shelter, is proposed on Grantland Ave near the Hwy 99 South ramp (single lane), next to the Dante Club, next to and across the street from 2 churches and County residential homes, which will undoubtedly add to the current traffic congestion.
The proposed project, if built, will also sit catty-corner to Herndon-Barstow Elementary where traffic bottlenecks on the single lane road. It now becomes a safety issue for children, parents, and school transportation vehicles. Even more importantly, per Dept. of Public Health, Fresno Humane Animal Services does not perform background checks on volunteers. This is of great concern considering the elementary school is within walking distance.
