Provide Transgender Rights in Our School NOW

As some of you may know, one of our peers - Sam Klink - was recently removed from the women's dressing room during our school musical because she happens to be a transgender woman. She was doing nothing wrong, and only a very small fraction of the girls complained about being uncomfortable with her using that dressing room. Sam had not been given dressing room privileges - only bathroom - as the school was unaware that the two needed to be given separately, so she was barred from the dressing room when a parent complained.

Now, the board is looking at creating a comprehensive policy, rather than providing rights on a case-by-case basis. However, we need to help ensure that that policy protects our transgender peers, allowing them to use the bathrooms and changing rooms of the gender that they identify with. We worry that if we leave the decision up to the board, they will take the "easy route" and bar all transgender students from the amenities for the gender they identify with.

Please take a minute to sign our petition to express your support for comprehensive transgender rights in our school that permit their usage of the bathrooms and dressing rooms that they feel comfortable using. Any and all support is greatly appreciated, and if you have further opinions that you would like expressed to the school board, please let us know and we will make sure to include those messages in our communications with the board.
