Tell the U.S. Dept of Education: Stop Arresting Kindergarteners!

  • by: C. McCain

UPDATE: Recent headlines revealing that a Texas teacher ordered 24 students to line up and hit a 6-year-old "bully" proves that our nations school systems are in urgent need of better training on how to handle disruptive students!

Tell the U.S. Department of Education to enforce policies preventing elementary-aged children from being arrested and thrown in jail for normal misbehavior in school!

All over the United States, children as young as 5-years-old are being handcuffed and arrested! Educators have a tough job, but they also have the training to handle classroom behavior. It is outrageous to call in the police when very young children throw a temper tantrum!

ALL children misbehave; it is a normal part of growing up. They do not have the mental capability to control their actions at all times, so to traumatize a young child for what amounts to normal behavior issues is downright abusive to children. Make them call the parents instead!

Dear U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan

U.S. Department of Education

400 Maryland Avenue, SW

Washington, D.C. 20202

I, the undersigned, do not support the criminalization of
elementary aged children for normal misbehavior issues. Stop allowing school
systems across the United States to use the police and jail as a disciplinary
measure! It is extreme, traumatizing and abusive! Educators are the adults in
charge and should be required to rely on their training to control young
children. If they cannot control the actions of a young student, make them call
the parents – not the police!

Sincerely,
